PRIMGHAR - MidAmerican Energy, Mortenson Construction Company and Siemens Energy drew a far larger and genuinely curious crowd then expected when they combined to host an open house of sorts at a wind turbine site hear Primghar Aug. 30.

As one of 214 sites, this one is west of the Highland Wind Farm Project office complex two miles east and a half mile south of Primghar.

Specifically targeting young children by calling the exhibition Kids and Cranez, the promotional event took place on a sunny, warm almost windless afternoon. With hot food and drinks served, yellow plastic hardhats and T-shirts were presented to the many scores of small children who eagerly eyeballed all the giant equipment on display, with some machinery only an arm's length away.

The curious crowd lingered and questioned those who work on these sites. Many young, impressionable kids and perhaps even some with future wind energy industry or engineering careers already in mind, had their inquisitive minds nurtured on a sunny Sunday afternoon as they walked down the road and went home.
