The Sutherland American Legion/Community Building Committee was excited to receive news that their application for a Vision Iowa Community Attraction and Tourism (CAT) grant has been approved. Plans can now move forward for the new multi-purpose building to be built on the corner of Ash and West Second streets in Sutherland. This new facility will hold a meeting room, kitchen, restrooms and a storage area for the Legion’s medical equipment. There will also be space for the city to lease for their offices.

According to Iowa Economic Development, the total cost of this project will be a little over $1.5 million and a CAT grant was approved in the amount of $299,903.00. The Building Committee must now complete their fund raising within 30 days of the grant award date.

The Vision Iowa Program provides funding for “the construction of recreational, cultural, educational or entertainment facilities that enhance the quality of life”1 in our Iowa communities. Currently, 398 CAT awards adding up to $150,725,089 have been granted by the Vision Iowa board.
