Primghar, Iowa, July 1, 2021 – Brooklyn Grady, a 2021 graduate of Sheldon Community School District, was chosen as this year’s O’Brien County Career Day Scholarship recipient. The O’Brien County Economic Development Corporation (OCEDC) and the Sheldon Chamber & Development Corporation (SCDC) partnered again this year with Northwest Iowa Community College and ISU Extension & Outreach to bring Career Day to four area school districts.

The mission of O’Brien County Career Day is to provide opportunities for high school students to learn about the vast variety of professional careers within the county borders and to encourage those students to return to the area after graduation.

To be eligible to receive the scholarship, students had to have received a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma from a participating school between the years of 2018 to 2021. Applicants must also be a resident or plan to become a resident of O’Brien County and/or be employed or self-employed in the county. Brooklyn competed in a selection process that included submitting an essay and being interviewed by the selection committee.

Curt Strouth, Sheldon Community Development Director, and Shantel Oostra, Chamber Director, presented the scholarship to Brooklyn last month. Strouth expressed his appreciation for all the scholarship applicants and emphasized the career opportunities in O’Brien County for our high school and college graduates.
