Two O'Brien County Businesses Compete in The Big Challenge

The Big Challenge is giving entreprenuers a chance to submit their dreams to start or expand a business. The three business ideas that generate the most votes between October 13th and 22nd will advance to a pitch competition to be held November 18th. Family, friends and customers are encouraged to vote for their favorite entrepreneurs once per day. 

One O'Brien County couple's dream is the Friedrichsen Locker, a small family owned and operated meat processing facility in Sutherland. The Friedrichsens plan to grow a reliable meat processing locker with great customer service , modern facilities and superior products.

The second O'Brien County entrepreneur is Brittany Maassen, who owns and operates Midwest Designs, a home based business that makes and markets headbands and scrunchies. Brittany's dream is to upgrade her space and add some equipment to her operation.

The Big Challenge contest is sponsored and organized by the economic development organizations that are a part of Iowa's West Coast Iniative and Northwest Iowa Developers and includes the counties of Lyon, Osceola, Sioux, O'Brien, Plymouth, Woodbury and Monona.
